U-S News and World Report says Children’s Hospital of Michigan is among the best facilities of its kind in the country. WDET’s Pat Batcheller reports.
The magazine’s latest issue…which hits newsstands today…ranks America’s top 30 pediatric hospitals by specialty. Children’s Hospital of Michigan ranked 21st in neurology and neurosurgery…and 29th in cancer treatment. Children’s president Doctor Herman Gray says the rankings are based on reputation…clinical outcomes…and the kind of care patients receive.
“Such as…you know, do you have a bone marrow transplant unit in the hospital? Does your hospital have a magnet status as an outstanding nursing institution, which we just achieved in this past year, and I think helped us.”
Doctor Gray says the magazine’s rankings used to be more general…and based mostly on reputation. Children’s was not in the top 30 last year…but has been ranked as high as sixth in previous surveys. Gray says being so highly-ranked helps employees feel good about the work they’re doing…and reassures parents that their children are getting good care.
