Clyburn Campaigns For Democrats In Pontiac
Jun 8, 2008
Metro Desk

U.S. House Majority Whip James Clyburn

House Majority Whip James Clyburn campaigned in Metro Detroit for the Democratic Party Sunday.

Clyburn visited several Pontiac churches to show his support for Congressional candidate Gary Peters.

Clyburn also invoked the memory of Martin Luther King Junior to the congregation at New Mount Moriah International Church...saying he is convinced that Democratic Presidential candiate Barack Obama will bring Americans to the mountain top.

"And I know enough about the workings of the United States Government to know that he cannot do it alone. He will need Gary Peters with him and I come to you today…to ask…you to give Barack Obama the help he needs."

Clyburn says Michigan figures very prominently in the upcoming presidential election. He says Barack Obama is drawing a new map for Democrats…helping the party focus on voters in swing states that could give the party a victory in November.
