Conyers Opens Investigation Into Alleged False WMD Documents
Aug 20, 2008
General

House Judiciary Chairman and Detroit Democrat John Conyers is calling for an investigation into published allegations that the Bush Administration fabricated evidence that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter has more…

A recent book alleges that senior members of the Bush Administration directed the C-I-A to create false documents that showed Iraq might have nuclear or other weapons of  mass destruction.

The book accuses senior CIA officials of directing the fabrications as just another mission assigned by the White House.

The Bush Administration and some former intelligence officials have denied those allegations…and charge that the book’s author practices “gutter journalism.”

But the head of the House Judiciary Committee – John Conyers – does not share that view.

Conyers is opening an investigation into the allegations…and requesting interviews with numerous administration and intelligence officers.

In the recent past…White House officials have routinely refused Conyers attempts at gaining information on decisions made involving President Bush…on grounds that their conversations were private and covered under executive privilege.
