The Detroit City Council has stripped Monica Conyers of her committee assignments a day after her letter of resignation was received by the city clerk.

Conyers resigned from the council effective July sixth after pleading guilty in federal court Friday to taking cash in exchange for her vote on a $47 million, sludge contract.

Councilwoman Barbara Rose Collins asked Council President Ken Cockrel, Junior why the vote was necessary during Tuesday’s meeting.

“Why do you even need it… she resigned? It’s a precautionary measure, put it that way.”

Monica Conyers is the wife of Democratic Congressman John Conyers.
