Curbside Recycling Comes to Detroit
Jul 1, 2009
Metro Desk

Curbside recycling is underway in sections of the City of Detroit.

A pilot recycling program is taking place in the neighborhoods in and around East English Village and North Rosedale Park. Up to 30,000 households are eligible to take part on a weekly or bi-weekly basis depending on their location.

Alfred Jordan is Director of the Detroit Department of Public Works. He urges residents in the pilot areas to take part in the recycling program.

“Participate. It will make our disposal and processing of materials a lot less expensive.”

Jordan says the data collected during the pilot program will be used to gage the cost and complexity of expanding the recycling effort citywide.

The pilot program is expected to last about a year.
