The Detroit Police Department is starting a pilot program in the Northeast section of the city to help neighbors come together and fight crime.
The effort is called “Show the Bow” and it urges residents on the northeast side to tie a yellow ribbon to their light post or front door… and then network with their neighbors.
Leslie Griffin is with Detroit Board of Police Commissioners.
“When the citizens know one another and know who’s living next to them or down the street from them, and when they see activities that they may not usually see in their neighborhood… when they report that to the police department, the police can respond.”
Organizers say a captain is selected on each block and that person will have a direct line to the police.
The “Show the Bow” campaign kicks off Saturday at 1pm at the Serbian Hall located at the corner of Van Dyke and Outer Drive in Detroit.
