Lions Come Close, But Lose Again

November 2, 2008

The Lions lost to the Chicago Bears on the road yesterday…and are now the only NFL team that hasn’t won a game yet this season.  WDET’s Pat Batcheller reports.

The Bears took an early 10-to-nothing lead…but the Lions roared right back…scoring 23 points in the second quarter…including touchdown passes from Dan Orlovsky to Calvin Johnson and Shaun McDonald.  Rookie running back Kevin Smith also reached the end zone…and Jason Hanson added a 52-yard field goal to give Detroit a 23-13 lead at halftime.  But the Lions would not score again…and Bears quarterback Rex Grossman took advantage.  Grossman…who replaced the injured Kyle Orton in the first half…threw a six yard touchdown pass to Rashied Davis in the third quarter…and scored the winning touchdown himself on a one-yard run in the fourth…giving the Bears a 27-23 victory.  Detroit is now oh-and-eight…the worst record in the NFL.  The only other winless team entering Sunday’s action…the Cincinnati Bengals…beat the Jacksonville Jaguars.  The Jags visit Ford Field next week.
