New quarterbacks…but the same old story for the Lions. They lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars at Ford Field yesterday…and remain the only winless team in the NFL this season. WDET’s Pat Batcheller reports.
Daunte Culpepper’s return to the NFL was a rough one. The former Pro Bowl quarterback—who hadn’t played since last season--started for the injured Dan Orlovsky less than a week after signing a two-year contract. Culpepper’s first pass was incomplete…his second was intercepted. That set up a field goal giving the Jags a three-nothing lead. Later in the first quarter…Culpepper drove the Lions to the Jacksonville two-yard line. After failing to get the Lions into the end zone…he was briefly replaced by Drew Stanton…playing in his first NFL game. Stanton threw his first touchdown pass to John Owens…giving the Lions a 7-3 lead. The Jags took over from there…scoring five touchdowns on their way to a 38-to-14 victory. Culpepper completed just five out of 10 passes for 104 yards. Stanton went six-for-eight with 94 yards and a touchdown. The loss drops the Lions to oh-and-nine…assuring them their eighth straight losing season…a franchise record.
