The Michigan Court of Appeals has handed the Wayne County Prosecutor another denial in the criminal case against Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
The state’s second highest court has denied Kym Worthy’s motion to disqualify the entire 36th District Court bench from hearing the criminal case against Kilpatrick.
Worthy appealed a Wayne County Circuit Court ruling in May that upheld District Judge Ronald Giles' decision not to disqualify himself or his colleagues.
Worthy says close ties exist between Mayor and some 36th District Court judges… including Giles who was a Kilpatrick campaign contributor. Giles has also countered that he gave money to the campaigns of Kilpatrick’s opponent Freeman Hendrix and Prosecutor Worthy.
Kilpatrick and his former top aide, Christine Beatty, face a September 22nd preliminary examination before Giles on perjury and other charges. They are accused of lying about a romantic relationship during a whistle-blowers' trial and their roles in the firing of a Detroit police official.
Both deny the charges.
