Red Wings Sign Free Agent Hossa
Jul 2, 2008
Sports Desk

The Detroit Red Wings have signed one of the top free agents available in the National Hockey League.

WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter has more…

When the Red Wings last saw right wing Marian Hossa…he was battling against them on behalf of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup finals.

Now Hossa IS a Red Wing.

He signed a one-year deal with Detroit that is reportedly worth almost eight million dollars.

But Hossa says he could have made more money with other teams.

Pittsburgh reportedly offered him a multi-year contract.

But Hossa says he thought his best chance of winning a championship was in Detroit…where many favor the Red Wings to again win the Stanley Cup next year.

The 29-year-old is a five time All Star…and gives Detroit a chance to be one of the highest scoring teams in the N-H-L.
