An urban farming exhibit will be one of the new features at this year’s Michigan State Fair. General Manager Robert Porter says the display is designed for people who are interested in turning vacant lots into vegetable gardens. Porter says urban farmer Ryan Rowinski has volunteered to show fair-goers how to start their own gardens.
“To show how you can maximize the development of your garden for food production, for people in the neighborhood, for eating, or to donate, or to even sell for money for that matter. He shows how to use rainwater, recycled rainwater from downspouts, how to collect that and water your garden with it.”
The exhibit is free. The State Fair opens on Friday.
