How Can We Keep People From Leaving The State? - Link to Audio

How has the loss of Michigan residents to other states affected you? Has  a friend, family member, or neighbor moved away in recent years to find work? We'll talk about our state's depopulation problem in human terms during the first hour of today's show. Kurt Metzger, demographer and director of D-ACIS, John Austin, Senior Policy Analyst at the Brookings Institute, and Robin Boyle, Professor of Urban Economic Development at Wayne State University join us to discuss. We'll also talk with a group of Canadian artists who are addressing population loss by inspiring the remaining residents of Detroit and Windsor to work together. Broken City Lab are projecting messages to Detroit tonight from across the river as part of a long term project to address problems of blight and depopulation in the cities. We'll talk with Justin Langlois, Research Director of Broken City Lab.

Ford, Volkswagen and Subaru are among the top leaders for safety in the annual insurance industry vehicle awards. We'll talk with Adrian Lund, President of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

 

We'll also talk to Macomb County resident Joe Cada, winner of the 2009 World Championship of Poker.
