Rob Reinhart - Program Host

Rob Reinhart

Rob Reinhart's Essential Music and Acoustic Café are hosted each week by Rob Reinhart. Rob started his professional broadcasting career while still in college, pursuing his degree in Psychology. Feeling the future of the human psyche to be limited, instead he threw himself into the infinitely expanding universe of radio and vinyl discs containing music. This was the early-mid 80s.

Over the last 20 years, Reinhart has also owned an ad agency and radio production company, written and produced syndicated comedy for radio, voiced thousands of radio and TV commercials, consulted movie, television and internet media projects, created and hosted both Acoustic Café and The No Depression Alt-Country Radio Hour (produced with No Depression Magazine), and even been the voice of Radio Bonnaroo! Rob Reinhart's Essential Music on WDET is a new, live radio show, and marks a return to the Southeast Michigan airwaves for Reinhart.

He lives with his wife of long standing, two very interesting children and one slightly defective golden retriever named Fibber. Although radio’s universe has not continued its planned infinite expansion, Reinhart still believes in its unique power. “Good radio is now one of the only media that isn’t designed to simply reflect the taste of the user. It’s still a community that brings together lots of different people. Neat, huh.”

Nick Austin - Program Host

A native Detroiter with a post graduate degree from Wayne State, Nick is a classically trained musician who developed his love and interest in a diverse array of musical styles at a young age.  Listening to the likes of Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, and Kevin Saunderson, Nick spent his summers in northern Michigan performing with various groups, including the World Youth Symphony Orchestra at Interlochen.  He continued this tradition in college as a scholarship member of the university’s jazz band, symphonic band, and orchestra, publishing 2 CDs. Combining his experiences at home with his formal musical training, he began to share his perspective on music with WGRE radio, winning awards from the Society of Professional Journalists in collegiate broadcasting as part of the Princeton Review’s #1 college radio station in the nation in 2001.

A philosopher and artist, Nick continues his tradition of breaking barriers in music on WDET, merging genres like soul and funk with electronica and hip-hop  into a rich tapestry of sound, featuring the likes of Jill Scott, The Roots, John Legend, and Lupe Faisco.
